For our 2013-14 season at Town Hall Birmingham we are delighted to welcome Raphael Wallfisch as our Associate Artist, performing three of his favourite works for cello and orchestra: the Rococo Variations, Schumann’s Cello Concerto and the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto in A minor.

Pianist Martin Roscoe joins us for a performance of one of Mozart’s greatest concertos, and regular audience members will be delighted to see that Tamsin Waley-Cohen returns to perform Mozart’s ‘Turkish’ Violin Concerto, in A major. The trilogy of Mozart concertos is completed by Orchestra of the Swan principals Diane Clarke and Helen Sharp, performing the glittering concerto for flute and harp.

By popular request this season, we also feature three of Haydn’s symphonies, La Poule, La Reine and The Philosopher, not titles that Haydn would have necessarily recognised, but perhaps they do reflect the wit and humour of the ‘Father of the Symphony’.

I hope you’ll be able to join us for the extra concert in our season. Sylvie Bodorová is one of the Czech Republic’s leading composers and her son, the extremely gifted young Czech conductor Marek Štilec, will be conducting this programme which includes the ecstatic Jubiloso.

Do join us for our pre-concert talks, post-concert conversation and another season of great music performed by Orchestra of the Swan for you.
