Morgan Szymanski

Born in Mexico City in 1979, Morgan Szymanski studied at the Royal College of Music and Conservatorium van Amsterdam, graduating in 2004 with first class honours. He immediately went on to become the first solo guitarist to be selected by YCAT and was the first guitarist to be awarded a Junior Fellowship at the RCM, where he completed his Masters with distinction.
A top prize-winner at major international competitions, in 2002 Morgan won first prize at the prestigious National Guitar Competition in Mexico. Abroad, performances as a soloist and with orchestras have taken him to Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and the USA.
Over the last year Morgan has given recitals at major venues and festivals throughout Europe including three return visits to Wigmore Hall and concerts at the Bridgewater Hall, St. George's Bristol, the Bath, Lake District, Cheltenham, Newbury, Chelsea, Salisbury, Lichfield, Buxton, Warwick and Ripon International Festivals. As a concerto soloist his work has included performances of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Bridgewater Hall. Further afield, Morgan has appeared at the Milan Guitar Festival and given concerts in Paris, Madrid, Lisbon, Guatemala, Zimbabwe and Mexico.
Future plans include performances of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra and Orchestra of the Swan, and recitals up and down the UK including the Lake District, Salisbury, Stratford and Exeter Festivals. His second CD - Mano a Mano - a fusion of Latin-American popular sound and western traditional music with his ensemble Machaca was launched at London's Latin-American Music Festival La Linea at the Purcell Room in April 2007. His previous CD of classic Latin American music and works written especially for him was released in 2005 to critical acclaim.
