Jane Manning
Soprano
Jane Manning has more than 40 years of international experience and continues to enjoy an active performing career. She has given more than 350 world premieres, and has worked closely with composers including Bennett, Birtwistle, Cage, Carter, Knussen, and Weir. Her CD recordings include the major song cycles of Messiaen and works by Berg, Dallapiccola and Ligeti with conductors such as Boulez and Rattle. Recent performances have included Maxwell Davies's Miss Donnithorne's Maggot in Turin with the London Sinfonietta, and in Barcelona with Psappha.
Her interpretation of Pierrot Lunaire, with which she made her broadcast debut in 1965, is regarded as definitive. She has performed it with more than 20 different ensembles world-wide, including a historic performance with Barenboim, Du Pre, Zukerman and Mehta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, followed by the work's premiere in Israel under Mehta.
In autumn 2004 she began three years as AHRB Creative Arts Research Fellow at Kingston University, undertaking a major study of the work from the performance perspective.
She received an OBE in 1990, and holds Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of York, Keele, and Durham. |
