The orchestra formed its chamber choir in 2011 since when the choir has gone from strength to strength. The singers are drawn by invitation from some of the best choirs throughout the country including the Monteverdi Choir, BBC Singers, the Tallis Scholars, Ex Cathedra and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields.
All the singers have substantial experience in choral singing at the highest level and have recorded, broadcast and toured internationally.
The choir has performed and broadcast with the orchestra with live performances on BBC Radio 3 & 4 in 2014 and further broadcasts are planned to for the Shakespeare 400 Anniversary celebrations in 2016. As well as repertoire such as the Cantata Misericordium – Britten, The Requiem – Fauré, In Terra Pax – Finzi, Messiah – Handel, Gloria – Vivaldi and Dixit Dominus – Handel, the choir has performed new work by Dobrinka Tabakova, Pete Wyer and Stacy Garrop.
The choir has also sung with Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel & OOTS in The Sage Gateshead, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Bridgewater Hall Manchester and the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Concerts this year include works by Faure, Dobrinka Tabakova, Stacy Garrop, Vaughan Williams, Thomas Tallis and Hubert Parry, with a range of concerts planned for 2016.
The choir is organised and directed by trustee John Liggins, who is always pleased to hear from experienced singers who are interested in auditioning for the choir.
