A fully interactive series of four workshops, led members of the orchestra.
Aimed at KS2, pupils and musicians work together on a theme of the school’s choice, to create a musical performance piece. This could feature narrative or lyrics written by the children, set to music with the help of the musicians. A short dramatic tableau can be made to support the action, leading to an informal performance to the whole school and parents.
91% of pupils reported that the activity was ‘very good’ (66%) or ‘good’ (25%).
75% said that they ‘learned something new’
71% said that they ‘wanted to find out more’ about live music
School teaching staff felt that the musicians used accessible language, pupils were enthusiastic about the workshops and that the musicians related well to the children.
In addition, they reported that the project was well-organised, relevant to pupils’ needs, met the expectations of the school, provided new ideas for continuing work and gave staff greater confidence in music.
