A single visit project linked to a local performance by an Orchestra of the Swan small ensemble (wind quintet or string quartet).
Pupils meet, talk to, and hear the musicians, then ‘read between the lines’ as they, (Primary Schools), take a detective’s approach to finding out as much as they can about the players, their instruments and music. Secondary students can take the roles of music historian, radio interviewer, (you choose the station!), programme note writer and arts critic.
After the visit to school and with the support of school staff, pupils use the information they’ve discovered to create and produce programme with notes about the music to be played, information about the orchestra, and players’ biographies, to be used by the audience at the local concert which follows.
This project combines different skills and curriculum areas and encourages pupils who are not ‘switched on’ by live music alone to participate fully.
