Mendelssohn Symphony No.4, Italian

Anton Arensky is as well-known for having been the teacher of Scriabin and Rachmaninoff but this set of Variations, written as a memorial to Tchaikovsky, put Arensky on the map as a composer.
Inspired by Mozart, Tchaikovsky’s role model, the Variations of Rococo Theme are a beautiful piece of music and have charmed audiences for decades. The perfect ending is Mendelssohn’s Symphony inspired by the colour and atmosphere of Italy.
